Leicester City are allegedly going to hold contract discussions with homegrown midfielder Hamza Choudhury, who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

After spending last season on loan with Championship club Watford, the 25-year-old returned to City in the summer. He has appeared as a late substitute in three of City’s five league games this season, while also playing the full 90 minutes in Carabao Cup victories over Burton Albion and Tranmere Rovers.

Choudhury’s current contract at the King Power Stadium expires in a year. According to TEAMtalk, City are eager to lock down the academy graduate to a new contract in order to avoid losing him for nothing in less than a year.

According to the source, ‘a number of clubs’ are keeping an eye on the player’s status, but City are ‘ready’ to talk new terms and offer him a new contract in order to extend his stay.

The news comes as Southampton was thought to be interested in Choudhury during the summer transfer window. The Saints were thought to be ‘looking at’ a prospective deal, with Enzo Maresca making the final choice.

The City manager was claimed to regard the midfielder as an important component of his plans this season, thus a trade was not sanctioned. Maresca emphasized Choudhury’s importance, along with James Justin.

“With Hamza (Choudhury), they work very well,” he remarked. “These players will remain. We require them. We need JJ, Hamza, and other players of this caliber.”

Choudhury made 36 Championship games for Watford during his loan stay last season. All but one made the starting lineup.
