Two Newcastle United midfielders are reportedly being considered for a double loan by Championship team Sheffield Wednesday.

As the transfer deadline approaches, Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick are still looking for new teams after being considered surplus to requirements at Newcastle. Both players spent the previous season on loan in the Championship, Hendrick at Reading and Hayden at Norwich City.

Sky Sports reports that Sheffield Wednesday has discussed loan agreements with the two midfielders for the Magpies. While Hayden still has three years left on his current contract with the team, Hendrick’s with Newcastle will expire at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Hendrick has drawn a lot of interest from clubs in the Championship as well as Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership. The Republic of Ireland international is reportedly a target for Leeds United, and West Bromwich Albion has also been mentioned.

Hayden was prepared to travel for a physical earlier this week and was due to sign a loan agreement with Luton Town, a newbie to the Premier League, but the deal fell through at the last minute.

After his team’s Carabao Cup victory over Gillingham, Hatters manager Rob Edwards provided some clarification on the matter.

Edwards acknowledged, “He’s someone we looked at; obviously, there was curiosity. He’s a good player, but regrettably we weren’t able to come to terms on a deal. In the coming days, we may have a look and see what else we can accomplish.

Following their loan stints from the previous season, Hayden and Hendrick have not returned to Newcastle and have been practicing away from the team all summer.
