It’s been a predictably quiet window for Aston Villa, who have completed the signing of Kosta Nedeljkovic with an eye on the future and have sanctioned a series of loan departures, the most notable to date being Leander Dendoncker to Napoli.

Kerr Smith signed a new deal with the club before heading out on loan to St. Johnstone, before Finn Azaz was recalled from Plymouth Arygle and sold to Middlesbrough in a deal worth £2.5million. Ben Chrisene joined Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season and Teddy Rowe will spend the second half of the campaign at National League side Gloucester City.

Villa then completed the signing of Nedeljkovic, a Serbian defender who’ll stay where he is until the summer when he’ll hook up with his new colleagues.. That deal will be worth £6.5m plus add-ons. Having already made a handful of Champions League appearances, Nedeljkovic has plenty of potential, but fans can’t expect to see him feature for the first-team on a regular basis for at least six months.

There are still two more senior players who could leave before 11pm, both of whom have been informed by Unai Emery that they have no future at Villa; they are Calum Chambers Bertrand Troare. Chambers has only started one Premier League game under Emery, which came last season when Tyrone Mings wasn’t available to feature against Man City.

Traore is currently representing Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations and this is the final opportunity Villa have to bring in some money for the winger whose contract is up in the summer and will not be renewed. Kortney Hause has recently returned to training, but is unlikely to feature in the second half of the season and is also free to depart.

Then you focus on the incomings. Villa are expected to conclude a deal with Boro for Morgan Rogers, who only signed for the club in the summer from Manchester City. Rogers, a product of West Brom’s academy, will cost £8million initially and is a player who Emery has explained he is excited to work with and help develop. Rogers will become another attacking option.

At the other end of the pitch, having loaned out goalkeeper Filip Marschall to MK Dons, Villa are also lining up a move for stopper Joe Gauci from Adelaide United. The 23-year-old is an Australian international and will provide extra keeper cover behind first choice Emiliano Martinez.

Villa have also recalled Kaine Kesler Hayden from his loan spell at Plymouth, and will send out Lino Sousa to the Pilgrims once his permanent move from Arsenal to Villa is completed.
