One Wolves star will need to fill in for Hwang Hee-Chan while he is away representing South Korea at the Asia Cup.

Gary O’Neil has successfully brought out the best in the RB Leipzig recruit, overcoming a challenging start at Molineux. The South Korean striker has netted 10 goals in 20 Premier League games this season, closely trailing top scorers Mohamed Salah & Erling Haaland (14), Heung-min Son (12), and Jarrod Bowen (11).

Hailed as “underrated” and a “dream” for any manager by Paul Merson, the 27-year-old’s outstanding performance has defied expectations for Wolves, initially predicted to struggle this season. Hwang’s form, along with others, has propelled Wolves into contention for a European spot, with just three points separating them from seventh-place Brighton.

However, Hwang’s absence for up to six matches due to Asia Cup duty with South Korea is a setback for O’Neil, whose squad is already stretched thin. This poses a significant challenge as Wolves aim to maintain their impressive form in the coming fixtures.

Pedro Neto has to step up for Wolves

The reason the £50k-a-week star is attracting interest from top Premier League sides, including Liverpool and Arsenal, lies in his magnificent performances. At 23, he possesses exceptional talent, and O’Neil is eager to witness his brilliance in the upcoming weeks.

Although not as prolific a goal threat as Hwang, he is a highly gifted player who showcased exceptional form before his injury. With seven assists in 11 top-flight matches this season, he ranks just behind Ollie Watkins and Salah (8), who have played more games.

O’Neil has praised him as “incredible,” and if he resumes his pre-injury form, it presents a bittersweet situation for Wolves. While boosting their European aspirations, it could also elevate his market value. Hwang’s absence due to the Asia Cup is a significant setback, but the return of Neto is well-timed, offering fans the prospect of witnessing his dazzling performances once again.
