Reading’s Director of Football Operations, Mark Bowen, has revealed that he and manager Ruben Selles have ‘forfeited’ their salaries until the rest of the non-playing staff is paid in full.

On Thursday, it was revealed that there were insufficient finances to pay the entire payroll and that only the players would be paid in order to prevent another point punishment.

Non-playing personnel were paid up to 50%, with some receiving as little as 25%, with the promise that the remaining would be paid by Tuesday [tomorrow].
Bowen acknowledged to ITV before of the Royals’ FA Cup loss to Eastleigh that neither he nor Selles had received a dime of their November wage cheque.

“There was not enough funding coming into the club this month to pay everybody in full,” the former first-team manager said to Gabriel Clarke. “The chief executive made the decision to pay the players to avoid another points deduction, and a percentage was paid to the rest of the staff.”

“Myself and Ruben, the manager, decided that we would forego all of our wages until the employees were fully paid.” We’ve been promised that the monies would be sent and that everything will be in order by early next week.”

Three times this summer, employees were paid late, resulting in a three-window transfer ban.
