Wrexham Unveils Proposal for a 2,289-Seat Temporary Stand Before Christmas, as Construction of the New 5,500-Seater Kop Faces Delays Despite Commitment from Hollywood Owners.

After it was revealed that their new 5,500-seater end will not be finished in time for next season, Wrexham have confirmed plans to build a temporary 2,289-capacity stand at the Kop.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the club’s Hollywood owners, have vowed to build a new permanent stand at the Racecourse Ground before next season, increasing the stadium’s capacity to 16,000 people.
However, the club announced on Monday that work would begin on a new temporary stand behind the goal at the Racecourse Ground’s Kop End.

‘Work on installing a temporary, 2,289-capacity stand behind the goal at the Kop End will begin this week,’ Wrexham revealed. In September, Wrexham was forced to postpone plans, admitting that construction would not be completed in time for the 2024-25 campaign.

‘Applications for the necessary permits and licenses are being submitted concurrently with construction.’

The temporary stand, which will be open only to home fans, is expected to be completed in time for Wrexham’s match against Newport County on December 23.
‘We are making good progress resolving the outstanding matters before the Kop Development can begin, but with a minimum of three months mobilisation period before work can begin on site, we can now install a temporary stand without negatively impacting the Kop construction programme,’ said a club spokesman.

‘This cost reflects the fact that the stand will not have a roof, leaving fans exposed to adverse weather. Once the necessary licenses are in place, the tickets will be made available to members through the standard sales process.’

Reynolds and McElhenney have already declared that their ultimate ambition is to take the team all the way to the Premier League, and they appear to be adamant about having a stadium suited for the top division.

Wrexham were promoted from the National League last season and are off to a good start in their first season back in the Football League in 15 years.
