According to reports, Newcastle United has “entered the race” to sign a further promising young Brazilian player

Newcastle is interested in Wesley Gassova, an 18-year-old forward for Corinthians, according to Bolavip Brasil. With 30 games played, the teenager has two goals and one assist for the Brazilian team.

This season, Gassova has made a name for himself in the Corinthians starting lineup, mostly playing on the left wing. According to reports, he has an £86 million release clause in his contract—a sum Newcastle won’t even consider.

However, rumors from Brazil state that Newcastle is ‘interested’ in Gassova after scouting several young Brazilian players over the previous two seasons. Gabriel Moscardo, Gassova’s teammate at Corinthians, is reportedly under Newcastle’s consideration.

Steve Nickson, the head of recruitment at Newcastle, traveled to Brazil to scout many players. The Magpies have also appointed scouts with expertise in South American football and other regions of the world, broadening their worldwide recruitment network.

In addition to Gassova, Newcastle was also linked to Matheus Franca, who signed with Crystal Palace in the summer, and young players Angelo Gabriel and Andrey Santos, who have since signed with Chelsea for £13 million and £18 million, respectively.

Vitor Roque, a forward for Athletico Paranaense, has supposedly been observed by Newcastle as well, but he has been strongly linked to a January transfer to Barcelona.

The Magpies are looking to add some of Brazil’s brightest young players for comparatively cheap transfer fees in an attempt to replicate their success with international players Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
