Former Latics striker Junior Luamba has joined Salford City’s B team for at least the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old left Boundary Park at the end of his contract in the summer after four years with the club, during which time he made his professional debut in December 2020 and made 32 appearances across all competitions.

Luamba scored twice in 15 League Two games to secure victories over Sutton United and Scunthorpe United, but it was an injury-plagued season for the teenager and one that culminated in relegation for Latics.

The striker left Latics at the end of last season after failing to agree on fresh terms.

He has been on trial at Salford in recent weeks and played for the club’s B-Team in last week’s Central League Cup match against Stockport County.

“It’s been really good, I’ve had a little over two weeks with the lads, training’s been good,” he told his new team in an interview.

“I knew a few lads before I came so settling in has been quite straightforward and I’m really enjoying it.

“As a player I bring a lot of pace and power up front, I like running in behind, working hard for the team and anywhere where the coach wants me to play and have a role for the team, I’ll do it.

“I’m at the sort of age I need to get a few games under my belt, the past few months have been a bit difficult but I’m looking to get my head down now and kick on, play a few games hopefully for the men’s team, and hopefully improve on my technical ability. I feel like Salford’s a great opportunity for me to do that and I’m looking forward to it.”
