Image for Luton Town – Duo Leave To Explore New Options

The last week, or so, has seen some transfer activity, as far as Luton Town are concerned.

However, it is, in my opinion, nothing significant and only relates to two players who, I feel, were expected to seek playing time elsewhere.

Firstly, news broke midweek, as covered by Dundee United FC , that Jack Walton had returned to the Scottish club, Dundee United, on loan for the whole of the 2024/2025 season.

Walton was a mainstay of the Dundee United side last season, making 36 appearances and keeping 19 clean sheets, as the second tier side climbed back into the top-flight of Scottish football.

With Thomas Kaminski, James Shea and Tim Krul, currenty occupying goalkeeping slots at Kenilworth Road, the move, to me, makes sense, although at 26-years-of-age, one would have to question whether Walton has a long term future with Luton Town or not.

The move also questions whether Tim Krul will be leaving Luton Town this summer or not.

Speculation relating to a move to West Ham United for the much-travelled keeper, something we covered a while ago – keeper-linked-with-a-premier-league-return, seems to have stalled with the East London side having signed the Sheffield United keeper – Wes Foderingham – to shore up their options between the posts.

It’ll be interesting to see how Walton gets on in the top-tier of Scottish football.

Secondly, it has been confirmed, by the BBC, that Ryan Giles has, after spending a period on loan with the Humberside club, Hull City, joined them on a permanent basis.

As appears to be the norm, when reporting deals involving Luton Town, the fee paid by Hull City is described as ‘undisclosed’.

When Giles signed for the Hatters, back in July 2023, it was rumoured to be for a club record fee, we can only hope that we received a similar fee back from Hull City.

During his time with the Hatters, Giles made just 11 Premier League appearances, before being sent out on loan, one reason we’ve heard for the deal not being as successful as we would have hoped, is that he couldn’t settle in the area.

Nevertheless, despite his Luton Town career being short and swift, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish him well at his new destination.
